It is located on a mountain top directed towards Lhuentse Dzong, Khoma Gewog, and Gangzur Gewog. It was built by Lam Pekar Jamtsho in the 17th century. Later in the 20th century, Azhi Wangmo, the daughter of our First King returned to Bhutan from Tibet after receiving many years of rigorous training in Buddhist philosophies under the guidance of Karmapa. She committed to spreading Buddhism and supported the monastery with utmost devotion. Jangchubling is well known for housing 16th Karmapa’s relics, the rosary of previous Situ Rinpoche, and a statue of Tshepamey. Another place associated with Ashi Wangmo is Thimyul Naktshang. If one travels up from Jangchubling, one can witness another sacred place known as YodraK Woesal Chhoeling Goenpa.
