Lhuentse Dzongkhag Court began to administer justice from Lhuentse Dzong in 1964. It continued to function from the Dzong until 4th November 2014, when the present court building was inaugurated by His Royal Highness: Gyaltshab Jigme Dorji Wangchuck. The new court building was constructed with financial assistance from the Royal Government of Bhutan during the tenure of the first Constitutional Chief Justice of Bhutan: His Excellency, Lyonpo Sonam Tobgye.

The Dzongkhag Court is mandated to fulfil the mission of the Judiciary of Bhutan: "Safeguard, uphold, and administer Justice fairly and independently without fear, favour, or undue delay in accordance with the Rule of Law, to inspire trust and confidence and enhance access to Justice.”
