Lhuentse hospital was initially started as missionary hospital at Phaling. The hospital was mostly engaged in treating leprosy patients as it was mostly prevalent in the region. The Royal government under the visionary Leadership of Fourth Druk Gyalpo has decided to shift the hospital to present location and was converted to 20 bedded District hospital with the area coverage of 3.4 acres. It was inaugurated by His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo Jigme Singye Wangchuck on 17th December 1999. The hospital was funded by the Government of India. It provides both allopathic and traditional method of health care services. There are currently 13 units and 60 staffs serving in various departments.
Lhuentse Hospital provides both curative and preventive health care services. It is the refer centre for 14 BHUs. It provides community health services such as comprehensive school health program, Traditional medicine services, RNDA, health services to unreached population, conducting outreach clinic, public awareness program, assessing community development for health, observing global days to give continuing support to combat diseases in the community and many adhoc injected vital assessment directed by the parent ministry in the community. It also provides emergency services as per the directives of HHC and mobilizes staffs during disease outbreaks. The hospital is also actively involved in community based medical care for elders who are unable to visit health centers under elderly health care services.
