Lhuentse Celebrate World Day to Combat Desertification and Land Degradation, 2018

The 17th June was observed world wide as World Day to Combat Desertification and Land Degradation with focus on Sustainable Land Management (SLM) as a way to regenerate economies and revitalize communities.
The Dzongkhag Administration, Lhuentse joined with global society to mark the day with the theme ‘Land has true value. Invest in it’. The day was celebrated in Lekpa village under Gangzur geog, which was identified to create as SLM Model Village.
The day was graced by Hon’ble Dasho Dzongrab as chief guest. Dzongkhag Sector Heads, Gups, Gewog Administrative officers and farmers from Gangzur geog took part in the program.
The main purpose of observing the World Day is to promote public awareness of land degradation and to address global and national actions to combat desertification, land degradation and drought.
The day was marked by planting hedgerows. The programme was supported by UNDP through LDCF-GEF funding.
